Biography

Edith Kavanagh Steel was born in the North East of England. She is a self- taught artist that only began her artistic careen late in life due to a long illness.

Edith trained as a Special Needs Teacher and a Paralegal and has several other qualifications along with achieving her degree with honours.

She has exhibited her work locally and has won awards. Her work is also in the collection of both celebrities, such as Tommy Steele and the late Micky Rooney, as well as private collectors. She is very proud of the letter she received from St James’ Palace written on behalf of Prince Charles thanking her for the watercolour of Gibside Chapel which was a favourite place of the late Queen Mother.

Edith was heavily influenced by such notable artists as Redoute and Turner although she has not entered into landscape painting to-date but hopes to in the future. At present her main love is flowers and animals although she will undertake any subject that takes her eye thus showing her versatility. She is also happy to work in most mediums and loves to learn new techniques’ and insists on only using the best artist quality materials.
